Does the writer’s life mean one must keep up with their ideas?

To answer that question, in my experience a problem I have is that I don’t run out of ideas and I can’t keep up with them so sometimes just let them go through the sieve of the memory. I don’t like doing that because the idea might have had some worth or poential as an entertaining story. One hopes it was not that important and soon forgets it.
