Deeply felt correspondence between pen-pals of an earlier time

Wasn’t this just the ideal situation for some? Some would relish this!

Helene Hanff was a writer from New York who sparked a very long conversation with bookseller Frank Doel over decades. Over the course of Hanff procuring antique books from Doel’s business, Marks and Co, they continue a long-distance correspondence through letters that began with the first book she bought, where the person behind the letters becomes more valuable than the words alone. It was deeply felt. Is this nostalgia, now?

My review is here of 84 Charing Cross Road which focusses on the theme of their story as it pertained to the time.
