The method of writing metered poetry may start quite from scratch. One forces the words to fit the meter as one drafts the poem. I have found another way that may work for me.
As I am currently writing free verse poetry, I draft the poem as the words come out. But it occurred to me that if I want to write metered poetry, I can go over my lines and re-create a free verse poem as a metered poem. This, I thought, may work better than starting a metered poem from scratch. One has the base material of the free verse poem to work upon.
So, I hope to write more metered poetry this way.
